Thank you all SO MUCH for your patience during the site's extended hiatus. Life threw me curveballs, and I made lemonade. Or, whatever. The point is, I'm back, and so is the site! Check out the second part of my 3-part Tamara story called "Safe Journey: Spatiu Gol," which features a screencap by the talented Juanita Martinez and a fabulously appropriate ad by Rhesa Sealy.

We've also had a WINNER in our BOL Opening Credits Sequence contest! The winning video, as selected by Sasha Roiz, was submitted by Bernard Kyer! According to Sasha:

"[Bernard's video] gave a greater scope of the world and characters in it, while maintaining a sense of the foreboding. Nice work!"

In addition to Bernard's video being a permanent fixture this season at our WELCOME page, he will be receiving a copy of Beyond Caprica: A Visitor's Guide to the Twelve Colonies signed by author, Bob Harris, and Caprica co-executive producer, Jane Espenson. Congratulations, Bernard!

An autographed copy of Beyond Caprica will also go to our runner-up, James Garza, whose submission can be viewed HERE.

Welcome back to Beginning of Line everyone! I promise not to stray for so long ever again!

Hello everyone!

So, I am returned from L.A. and I had an amazing, frantic, wonderfully busy time. However, the fact that I was busy with other things meant that I didn't edit the next couple of stories as I was hoping to do in my downtime. So, I'll need this week to catch up, meaning that the NEXT NEW EPISODE WILL NOW POST MARCH 1ST.

Do not panic! Beginning Of Line is not going by the wayside, which is why I'm taking the time to update the blog and let you all know what's going on. Also, I was considering posting on a day later this week, but I'd really like to keep the new posts to Tuesdays, so that even if we have to take a week or two off, there's always the consistent day for people to check back for new content. BOL - providing consistency, you know, the way SyFy didn't. /snark

As for the video contest, I am EXTENDING the deadline by a week! Videos are now due to me by FEBRUARY 28th. We will also be skipping reader voting and going directly to Sasha Roiz without passing "Go" and collecting $200 so as to stay as close to the timeline for debuting the new opening credits sequence as possible.

Two important announcements, kids!

1) The window for entering the BOL "Opening Credits" Video Contest is now CLOSED. Thank you to everyone who entered! If you entered via email on or before Feb 11, you should now have an email in your inbox from me explaining how to proceed. Your finished videos are due on FEBRUARY 20TH and reader voting begins on February 21st!

2) BEGINNING OF LINE IS ON HIATUS THIS WEEK! Your faithful Guatrau will be in L.A. this week, and so won't be able to update the page. BUT, this gives you the perfect opportunity to catch up on all the stories you've missed, as well as to get new readers over to the page! :) The next all-new Caprica story will post TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND.

OK, SERIOUSLY how great a photo is that?!

What does this photo have to do with the video contest?

Only that SASHA ROIZ, Sam Adama on Caprica, will be choosing the Grand Prize winner in our Video Contest from the Top 3 videos. So, you know, whatever.

It's true! Sasha has graciously agreed to have a looksee at the top three videos and select the winner that will become the site's official "opening credits." And for this, Beginning of Line thanks him profusely!

So, get me those emails letting me know you want to enter! Emails are due by February 11th, and your video submissions are due for Reader Voting by February 20th! And do a great job, because Sam Adama's watching! And if you don't, well...

....just...do a good job, OK? :)

In lieu of the Friday Five with Rhesa Sealy (her interview will appear next week after Part 2 of her story posts), I'm writing to tell you about a fun contest being held here at the site!

WE NOW HAVE THEME MUSIC thanks to BOL community member (and story contributor - his story will appear later in the season), Bernard Kyer! In addition to writing, he's also a composer and he surprised me with both a great theme and incidental music inspired by Caprica! I was so thrilled, I decided to use it here on the site...but I wanted to give someone who's talented with video a chance to create an opening credits sequence to go with the music!

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
** if you're interested in entering, send an email to beginningofline[at]gmail[dot]com with "VIDEO CONTEST" in the subject line.
** I will email you an mp3 of the theme.
** You will create an opening credits sequence using that music.
** You will email your video back to the BOL email address, and I will upload it to the Beginning of Line YouTube channel
** BOL readers will vote for their favorite by "liking" the videos on YouTube, narrowing the field down to a Top 3.
** The winner will be chosen from the Top 3 by Beginning of Line.

PRIZES
Grand Prize
1) The winner's video will be the permanent opening credits for Caprica S2 at Beginning of Line
2) The winner also receives a copy of Beyond Caprica: A Visitor's Pocket Guide to the Twelve Colonies, signed by author (and Caprica writer) BOB HARRIS, and Caprica Executive Producer, JANE ESPENSON.

First Runner-Up also receives a signed copy of Beyond Caprica.

TIMELINE:
Email entries must be received by February 11th.
Videos must be received by February 20th.
Reader voting takes place from February 21-March 1st
Winners will be announced March 8th, and the Grand Prize winner's video will appear with Episode 9 that day, which will be exactly halfway through this season at BOL.

RULES
** Do not post your videos up on YouTube yourselves! I'd like these to be a surprise! Also, I'll be posting them to our YouTube page without names attached so that people can vote based on the video and not on the person who made it. Please email them to me directly. If you can't send it as an attachment, then upload it to an FTP site and send me the link/password/etc.
** You should use the site's name - Beginning of Line - but do not call this "Caprica Season 2". Nothing your video text can imply that this is the second season of Caprica. However, an acceptable way to put it would be something like what's on our ABOUT page: "the only place where you can find NEW, regularly updated stories set in the world of Caprica!"
** Do not credit yourself in your video. You will receive credit on the site and on our YouTube page should your video be chosen. However, for the sake of voting, I ask that your name not be attached to the actual video.
** Should you wish to credit me as editor of the site in your video, you can - but it's not necessary. Just make sure you spell it right! :)  Teresa Jusino

Other than that, you can do whatever you like! Incorporate video footage from Caprica, use your own artwork, photos, actors, animals...anything! Be as creative as you like!
