PROLOGUE
And in business news, Graystone Industries has upped their bid in order to secure the contract for building the new fleet station on Sagittaron, though there is some objection about loss of human labour...
“Motherfrakker,” Sam said as he turned off the television.
“What?” Larry asked.
“Every time you turn on a frakking TV, Graystone’s on the news,” Sam replied picking lint off his hat.
Larry shrugged, “I wouldn’t worry. Soon the STO will do something and he’ll no longer be news worthy.”
He hated that fact more. The STO were gaining support and becoming more brazen in their attacks, but Sam smiled at Larry and bent down to kiss him. Larry nodded as Sam put on his hat and started for the door. He glanced around outside before heading for his car. The Guatrau had summoned him.
“Yusif?”
“Sam,” Yusif smiled and hugged his brother.
“What are you doing here?” Sam asked.
“I summoned you both,” The Guatrau said walking into the room with Daniel Graystone by her side.
Sam took a step forward and glared at him, “Why is he here?”
Daniel gave the smug, arrogant laugh that made Sam want to reach out and strangle him with his bare hands.
“Because it appears our common goals may be in jeopardy. Show them,” she said to Daniel.
Graystone was in his usual gray, expensive suit. Sam watched carefully as he pulled a sheet of paper from his pocket. He handed it to Yusif, who read it quietly to himself.
“What the frak is this?” he asked, handing it over to Sam.
Now I will choose the manner and time in which you shall die. You can’t negotiate this time.
I will gladly send you back into the soil.
-T.V.
Sam noted the Vergis Corporation logo on the page and looked at the faces around him before crumpling the sheet and tossing it back at Graystone.
“A frakking joke. No one could find that body. He’s dead. They’re messing with you to see how you’ll respond. Just ignore it and they’ll go away,” Sam said.
“Really. Well, I don’t think it’s a joke,” Daniel said. He handed over the knife.
Daniel remembered the moment when Tomas grabbed hold of his hands and forced the blade into himself. The look they shared still haunted him.
“A copy. Someone saw it and duplicated it," Yusif said. "Sam’s right. They're just trying to scare you. Probably hoping they got something and then they’ll blackmail you for money. No, let’s just ignore it.” Yusif gave Sam the blade.
Sam ran a finger along the blade, the cool steel appealing to him as an Enforcer. He noted the design. A well-crafted duplicate.
“That is the same blade he showed me. Somehow he’s alive, and now he wants his revenge,” Daniel said.
“He’s in the soil,” Sam said, “There’s no second chance for him. He didn’t just rise from the dead. It’s a game. Now, forget about it. It was taken care of.”

The man watched from across the street as Daniel Graystone exited Goldie's in Little Tauron, then pulled out his phone and dialed.
“Sir, he has just left. It went exactly as you predicted. Two other men have shown up as well...yes. Yes. I’ll follow Graystone and put someone else onto them. Yes. Very well.”
He pocketed the phone and then ran for his car to follow Daniel.
Back inside, Yusif, Sam, and the Guatrau sat as she examined the blade.
“It’s a frakking joke, that’s what this is,” Sam said.
“A joke. Yet, still could be a problem for us, Sam,” said The Guatrau. “We all know Tauran family blades are unique to each. This is not a duplicate, so how did Graystone get it?” she said placing the blade back on the table.
“He’s dead.”
“Sam, we aren’t saying he’s not, but maybe someone found the body,” Yusif interjected.
“You saying my men did a bad job?”
“No. Enough," The Guatrau said, rising to leave. "This wouldn’t have happened had my father not gone against another Tauran, but that is the past. For now, let us wait and watch. If someone truly knows something, they will soon show themselves and when that happens, Sam can take care of it."
“Yes, Guatrau.”
Sam lit his cigarette and handed the lighter over to Yusif. They slowly began to walk down the street. Sam exhaled.
“What do you really think, brother?” Sam asked in Tauran.
Yusif smiled, “I think from the moment Graystone called and said Tomas was dead that this day would one day come. Someone would eventually want answers. Graystone is the obvious choice. They may know nothing, but if he gets scared...”
“Frak,” Sam said tossing away his cigarette, “Then we wait and see if this goes away. I’ll see you tonight.”
Yusif nodded and Sam turned back. He had things to do today and worrying about Daniel Graystone wasn’t on the list.
“Gods Daniel,” Amanda said sitting down on the couch.
“It’s nothing. It’ll be dealt with if it turns out to be something,” Daniel said.
“Like Tomas was dealt with?” She said looking at him; “Why now? Why when everything is starting to go well is this happening?”
“I don’t know, but I just don’t want you to worry,” Daniel said.
“What now?”
“I go back to the office and figure out how to convince the Sagittaron government, that my deal is the better one. With the cylons doing the work, we can guarantee no loss of life. It’s cheaper and it’ll go faster than human labour,” Daniel said kissing her goodbye.
“Fine. I’m going to stay here with Zoe today. Just stay away from those Adamas. That one, Sam, he’s like the frakking harbinger of death.”
TWO
Matthew Zarek sat across from the woman. She was a true Tauran.
“Graystone is scared, but not scared enough yet,” he said. “I’ve moved us into phase two. Once he’s distracted we can start making our moves.”
“Good.”
“We plan to remind Mrs. Graystone of her husband’s earlier actions, perhaps she’ll even want to bargain for Graysto—“
“No. He dies. What of these brothers?” she asked, standing to look out of the large bay window.
“Sam Adama is one of the Ha’la’tha’s best assassins. He is a Captain. Apparently, has The Guatrau’s ear...”
“Is he responsible?”
“Perhaps, his brother is firmly entrenched as well. Sources of mine say he and Graystone are quite friendly,” Matthew said.
“Then I want them dead too.”
“Of course, but...”
“Yes Serge?” Amanda asked.
He had a message for her, and she asked him to play it.
“Please just delete it Serge. I’m going out for a while, tell Zoe for me,” she said grabbing her coat and purse.
Sam stopped counting cubits when he saw Amanda Graystone walk in. He let her stew for a bit as one of his men blocked her path. She gave him an equally pointed glare.
“Okay Frankie, let her by,” he said chuckling.
Amanda dropped into the seat across from him.
“You got some nerve showing up here. Come to shoot me again, for real this time?”
Sam shook his head as Frankie turned at the word shoot. Frankie nodded and went back to his post. Sam grinned at the blonde.
“No. I got a message this afternoon...” she said.
“Poor you. Cancelled hair appointment?”
“No. Someone said I should prepare for my loss. They said they were going to put my husband back into the soil. They told me that blood may be off the floor but that it's still on his hands,” she whispered leaning back into the chair looking concern.
Sam kept his composure even though it was bothering him how detailed this person was. He went back to counting his money.
“So what do you want from me?” he asked.
Amanda scoffed, “Your help. Someone wants to kill my husband.”
“Yeah, no kidding. A man like that will have a few enemies. I suggest you call the cops.”
Amanda leaned forward and hissed, “And say what?”
Sam stopped his counting and took hold of her hand, drawing her closer. She tried to pull away, but he held her tightly.
“Look lady. You ain’t my Guatrau, and I don’t work for you. Last time I gave my help I took a bullet. This ain’t frakking V-world. So like I said before, it’s a game. Someone is messing with you. Just ignore it, and it’ll stop. Now get the frak out,” Sam said, nodding towards Frankie.
Amanda glared at him, but she had nothing. What could she say to this man? So she nodded, and leaned forward.
“I hope to the gods you’re right, because if you’re wrong and my husband dies...”
“It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy,” Sam said, licking a finger and double checking the count.

And now, a word from our sponsor:
And now, back to "Vengeance Is Mine..."
Screencap by 'JediTray' Chester.
Matthew Zarek lay down on the bed. It had been another long day, but he had gotten what he wanted. The woman couldn’t say enough about her dead husband or how Daniel Graystone was responsible for his suicide. Matthew chuckled; it was starting to make sense. How quickly the tide could turn, but the Ha’la’tha helping to take down one of their own? He wondered how Daniel Graystone was still alive; they must have been done with him by now? He’d have to look into that, it may come in handy knowing why the Ha’la’tha were still in bed with Graystone.
He sat up looking at the wall. When he had started this campaign he wasn’t certain who’d he find to help, but was never one to ignore what the Gods sent him. He caught sight of the woman preacher, Clarice Willow on the news. They were interviewing her about her church and welcoming all cylons into it.
“Frakking metal toasters. Godsdamnit! They’re machines, not people with feelings! For the love of the gods,” Matthew screamed at the television.
He hated people like that. The ones who thought those things were for more than what they were for. Metal lovers. They could all go frak themselves. He’d fight every last one. He’d make his stand and defend his home, Sagittaron, from the likes of Graystone and his dreams of ruining humanity. No frakking way would he let one of those metal ‘bots replace a human.
“So what did you tell her?” Yusif asked.
Sam shrugged, then leaned over the counter to face his brother.
“I told her to go home and ignore it. Someone knows something, but how?”
Yusif looked around the room. Larry was on the couch dozing while he waited for Sam. Everyone else had gone to bed.
“Maybe we should go and take a look. Make sure the body is still there?”
“Frak no,” Sam said.
“Then what? As far as everyone is concerned Tomas Vergis has gone into seclusion or had a heart attack and died. If those two start saying something, some GDD guy is going to start poking around,” Yusif said, raising a hand to stop Sam’s protest, “Look let's just go. Body still in the ground, then good. If not, we’ve got a problem.”
Sam finally conceded. He hugged his brother goodnight, then woke Larry and left with him. On the drive home, Sam thought about the mess the Graystones had made of their lives. Maybe one day, they’d get exactly what they frakking deserved.
THREE
Matthew looked around Daniel Graystone’s office. He was offended. The machine in front of him was holding out a tray.
“No. Leave me alone,” Matthew said.
“By your command,” it replied.
Matthew shuddered as the robot walked away. Those things should be discontinued and fired into the sun, he thought. He looked around as Daniel walked in. The Graystone CEO held out a hand to him
“Mr. Zarek, what brings a labour representative from Sagittaron here?”
Matthew smiled and politely shook his hand; “I just came to discuss your bid for building the fleet station building. I understand you plan to use the majority of your robots to build it...”
Daniel shook his head, “Cylons. They’re called cylons. And yes. It is a military facility and the cylons are a part of the military, so they should build it. Besides, loss of human life is diminished if they are used.”
Matthew nodded, “I see, but many will lose their livelihood if you don’t allow human workers. Perhaps a compromise can be reached, a 50-50 split. Isn’t it better to work alongside these robots then have many Sagittarons alienated by them? You could end up with a situation on your hands if you don’t.”
“Like what? A war between the humans and the cylons?” Daniel laughed. “However, if you are so interested in this, why don’t you make another appointment with my assistant and bring me a proposal on how this 50-50 split would work.”
Matthew nodded again, shook Daniel’s hand and began to head out, but stopped at the door and turned around.
“I should point out, I also will be meeting with Mr. Vergis. I’m hoping he’ll put in an offer to counter you.”
Daniel stared at the man and turned around to stare out the window. He could see that he'd become pale in his reflection.
“I see. Well, good luck with that.”
Daniel listened to Matthew laugh, “Strange how quickly power can change hands. One minute you’re in, the next you’re out, and then you’re back. Funny how cold-blooded business can be. Almost mob-like these days, with all the backstabbing that goes on. You may as well get into bed with a group like the Ha’la’tha and be done with it.”
Matthew smiled and shut the door behind him. Daniel rested a hand against the glass. He looked back at the door and wondered about Matthew Zarek’s words. He then went for his phone to contact Sam.
FOUR
Frustrated, Sam ran a hand through his hair. Tomas’ body wasn’t there. Instead, it was one of his men who was supposed to be on Tauron visiting family.
“Frak me,” Yusif whispered.
“Where the frak is he?” Sam asked. “He didn’t just get up and walk away.”
“Well he’s not here,” Yusif said.
“Then someone took him,” Sam surmised.
“He’s only got a wife, and as far as we know, she’s mourned him and moved on,” his brother said.
“He’s dead, Yusif. But we need to find out who took him and killed my man,” Sam said, dropping the shovel.
Matthew sat down, “It’s going to plan. Daniel is scared now. And I’ve been told by my sources that those brothers have found the body. We should move to phase three. Have our man from the GDD visit Mrs. Graystone. Once that happens, your vengeance is secured.”
The woman crossed her legs and leaned back into her chair laughing.
“I may not be able to get the former Guatrau for his actions but I’ll have those brothers and Graystone, and reclaim the company Tomas earned. I’ll finish this fight they started. I’ll have their heads.”
Matthew smiled. He started thinking about his position on Sagittaron once Graystone was out of the way, but stopped himself. He was never one to put much stock in the future. He decided that he should pocket some insurance. It appeared these Adamas held the gods' favour. It worried him.
Amanda left her new office and had decided to take a walk through the nearby park. There was a beautiful area with a small fountain and a few benches she enjoyed. It oddly reminded her of the forest Zoe had created in V-world. She was in thought when the man grabbed her elbow. He didn’t appear to be one of Sam Adama’s goons, but something about the way he acted seemed familiar.
“Hey, let me go,” she said.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you Mrs. Graystone,” he said flashing his GDD credentials.
Amanda grew still, memories of Durham came flooding back. “What do you want?”
“Your help. If you don’t want to go down as an accomplice with your husband, you’ll help me. We know he is involved in Tomas Vergis' death. We could grant you leniency, but it’ll only happen if you tell us what he did and get us some solid evidence. Or, we’ll go public and put you back in the spotlight. Remember your daughter?”
Amanda stopped and glared at him, “We saved lives...”
“We don’t care about the past. Now what is your answer?”
