WEB COMICS
If you're interested in submitting a web comic, THAT'S AWESOME! All of the above artist and writer guidelines apply to you, too!
- 10 pages maximum, please. Or 3,000 words. If you write something amazing that's a little longer, that's fine, too. Just don't write a novel! Remember, I have to READ all of these!
- Please send your story either as a Microsoft Word document, or as a Google Doc.
- While the stories shouldn't be too long, they also shouldn't be too short. I'd ask that you not submit drabbles. I'd like complete stories with a beginning, middle, and end. Stories in which things happen (or in the case of multi-part stories, in which things are set up to happen). Characters should always be doing something. It can be something simple that is mostly dealt with internally, but I don't just want characters sitting around thinking about stuff and basically re-capping what we've already seen on the show.
- Please set your story AFTER the end of Season 1. I'm trying to encourage visions of the future of the show, not setting things between episodes, or anything like that. Use the history, plot developments, etc, that Caprica has set up, and run with it! If you want to incorporate flashbacks, that's fine, but root your story in a present that takes place after Season 1. And if you're resurrecting characters that have ceased to be in the show, you'd just better have a good reason or a good way of doing it!
- Feel free to create new characters! While there should always be a connection to the already established storylines on Caprica, going in a new direction with new characters is totally welcome!
- If you have a story arc in mind, as opposed to a one-off story, that's cool too! Just let me know in advance that that's what you're planning, and how many parts you anticipate your story will have, and it will post in installments.
- No smut please. At least, not yet. Slash and shipping is OK, but keep the smut out of it. I've read some great Amanda/Clarice, Joseph/Evelyn, Zoe/Lacy, and Sam/Larry stories out there that I've liked a whole lot, and were handled really well. I'd like to focus on stories that would actually move the world of the show along. Your story can have sex in it, but please not too graphic, and not for its own sake. Let's try and keep it classy. :)
- Prose is preferred! Despite using TV terminology on the site, I'd like to highlight what prose can do that television can't. That said, if you have an awesome idea that you only want to tell in screenplay format, ask me about it and we'll see if we can't work something out.
ARTISTS
- Please send JPEGs or PDFs of your work ONLY. No TIFFs or PNGs or anything else that's overly fancy. This is a free Weebly site, I'm not the most tech-savvy person ever, and I do most of my work on a PC. Three reasons why simpler, and smaller, is better. :) Let me know if this is a problem, and we can work something out, but if it's at all possible, JPEGs and PDFs, please!
- You may submit one of two kinds of illustrations - Either you can just create your own Caprica-inspired piece, and I will pair it with an appropriate story (which controls when it will go up on the site, as it's dependent on what I get), OR I can send you a story that you can create a specific illustration for. I'll send you a random story, so you won't be able to choose it, but you will also know your parameters and have an idea when your work will appear. Also, if you have a preference, like "I'd really like a story with Clarice in it," I'll do my best to select one for you.
- Feel free to submit work in whatever medium you choose. I will accept drawings and paintings (in whatever style), photo manipulation/screencaps, collages, photography, even sculpture and/or a cosplay tribute if you can send me a good photo of the piece in question.
FAKE PRINT ADS/COMMERCIALS
- Seeking fake print ads for either actual brands/products that appeared on Caprica, or stuff you make up in the spirit of the show. Funny is better. These will be included as "commercial breaks" during "episodes."
- Seeking fake commercials for the same purpose. The Cylon 7 ad used in for "Are You Alive?" is a perfect example! If you're feeling ambitious, wow us with a Caprica-inspired commercial! Right now, these are the only videos I'm accepting, though once this "season" is over, I'll be thinking about opportunities for the video-inclined among you.
