After having started this site twelve months ago, we've finally done it! This is the final story of our Caprica Season 2, and Enuma Elis, Pt. 1, written by BOL's resident composer, Bernard Keyer, is the first part in our 2-part Season Finale. Lovely accompanying artwork provided by radak. Give it a read, and discuss it and the rest of the season, in our forum.

Also, I AM STILL SEEKING WRITERS/ARTISTS/COMPOSERS/VIDEOGRAPHERS/ETC. FOR CAPRICA SEASON 3! It's going to be run differently than Season 2 was, and I'd love to get a running start at it in January 2012. You know the site, and you know the kinds of things we do/post. If you want to contribute in any way, or you have a new idea you'd like to help develop for next season, email me at beginningofline[at]gmail[dot]com! Email me with your declaration of interest NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 31ST. Once you email me that you're interested and how you'd like to contribute, I may ask you to submit a sample of your work. Please pass this call along to anyone you know who might be interested! I'd love to get a diverse group of voices involved in BOL's Season 3.

Now get over to the CURRENT EPISODE page and enjoy the first part of our Season Two finale!

Your Guatrau,
Teresa

A Vision of V-World (and a Submissions Call!)

Episode 16, which has just posted today HERE, is a V-World story by D. Shipway called "Assassin Nation." It's a great story about a V-World hitman and everyone's favorite slinky V-World "guide," Emanuelle. Lovely artwork has been provided by radak, and we have another Capri-Tours ad from Dora Kecskes. Check it out! I think you'll love it.

In other news, I AM SEEKING WRITERS/ARTISTS/COMPOSERS/VIDEOGRAPHERS/ETC. Once you email me that you're interested, I may ask you to submit a sample of your work.

On January 1st, I will be selecting my Season 3 crew and notifying everyone, and then we get to work!

So flood my inbox with emails! And spread the word to any Caprica/BSG fans that you know! With more and more people coming to Caprica on DVD, I want Season 3 to be a doozy! :) But I need your help!

So, What IS Up With That Flower Design Tamara Kept Drawing?

12/06/2011

Picture
I'd often wondered the same thing myself! Well, this week Vicki (aka thecleric007) tackles that question, as well as many others that relate to our favorite wandering deadwalker, Tamara Adama, in her story, "Fallen Angel," which can be found HERE.

"Fallen Angel" also features a gorgeous pencil drawing of Zoe from one of our most consistent artists, Abby Geiger, and another Capri-Tours ad (with an interesting take on post-Apotheosis tourism on Caprica) from Dora Kecskes.

I'd be curious what you think of this story as it provides our first overlap! It's the second Tamara Adama story after the 3-part "Safe Journey" story (Episodes 5-7), and while it provides a different take on what Tamara might do with her life, there are also many similarities in how her character will develop. As Tamara is one of Caprica's least-defined characters, I thought it interesting that two writers here at the site saw a lot of the same things in her having not consulted each other at all!

You can talk about the overlap in these stories at the "Worlds of Beginning of Line" section of our Forums, or you can discuss the story itself in the "Current Story" section. Either way, this site does better when people talk to each other! :)

Happy reading!

Your Guatrau,
Teresa

BEGINNING OF LINE IS BACK!

Beginning of Line is back, and it feels good! I have to tell you, I've missed this place. :) Thankfully, now that I've moved cross-country and gotten settled, I'll be able to get us all back to our regularly scheduled programming!

And we're back with a lovely little story by Vikki Bingham out of the UK, who wonders about the kind of relationship Bill Adama would've had with his father in her slice-of-life story, "Children Through the Cracks," which you can read HERE. It's accompanied by another fabulous screencap by Tray Chester, and an ad by Dora Kecskés, who was the author of the Gara Singh stories that served as Episodes 10 and 11.

As for our regularly scheduled programming, stories will appear here on TUESDAYS at 9AM Pacific Time (I'm in CA, and I'm not waking up early for the East Coast...or the rest of the world, either. So there.) barring any major catastrophes. You still have FOUR more episodes of our Caprica Season 2 to enjoy, and that will take us right through the holidays. After a short hiatus, we're looking to bring you Season 3 at the end of January/beginning of February with 18 NEW STORIES! And possibly a re-designed website. And maybe some other goodies, too.

But in order to do all of this, we need YOU:

1) If you'd like to contribute to Beginning of Line's Caprica Season 3, please email me at beginningofline[at]gmail[dot]com and let me know if you'd like to contribute as a writer, an artist, a musician, a videographer, or any combination of those four! Is there something I'm leaving out that you'd like to contribute? Let me know! I want this to be a site for everyone to enjoy, and I'd like to have features you'd like to see. Send any ideas/comments/suggestions my way!

2) Spread the love! If you like what you see here, tell people! We're on Twitter, and we have a Facebook page. Send the links out to people you know who love Caprica, BSG, sci-fi, or just love reading fan fiction! As more and more people are finding their way to Caprica on Netflix or on DVD, and inevitably getting upset that there's no more Caprica to enjoy, we'd love it if they found their way here!

3) Participate! Even if you're not a contributor to the site directly, we'd still love to hear from you! We have FORUMS where you can talk about that week's story, the other stories in the season, ideas for future Caprica adventures, or just the BSG Universe and sci-fi in general! And obviously, there's commenting here at the blog, too! :)

Welcome back to Beginning of Line, everyone! I hope you enjoy the rest of Caprica Season 2!

Your Guatrau,
Teresa

Hello again, everyone! Your Guatrau has missed you. But I'm back, and so is Beginning of Line!

The next episode of Beginning of Line - Episode 14 by Vicki Bingham - will go live on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH at 9AM Pacific Time!

Aww. We missed you, too! ;)

There are 18 episodes total in Caprica Season 2 here at Beginning of Line. Episodes will now be posting every Tuesday between November 29th and December 27th. Just in time for your Solstice celebrations. :)

After that, there will be a hiatus, followed by Caprica Season 3 in early 2012, complete with a revamped site! **Writers and artists interested in participating in Caprica S3, please email me at beginningofline[at]gmail[dot]com!**

So, now would be a great time to catch up on your reading and/or tell a friend about the site! If you know any Caprica or BSG fans (especially those chomping at the bit as they wait for Blood and Chrome) that don't know about this site, spread the link around! You can also share our Facebook page, and let people know about us on Twitter!

Beginning of Line is back, Li'l Cylons! And we've got some wonderful stories in store!

Your Guatrau,
Teresa

Catch Up With Lacy Rand, and CALLS FOR SUMMERTIME SMUT!

06/06/2011

Hello everyone! Long time, no see...
Picture
To say I've been suffering some computer issues lately would be a huge understatement! But I'm glad I'm up and running just in time for Tuesday so that I can post this wonderful story by Brazillian Caprica fan, Robson Lima, called "Climbing Mountains." It finally brings the focus here at Beginning of Line to Lacy Rand in her new role as Blessed Mother, as well as to her relationship with Zoe after the end of New Cap City. The story is accompanied by a beautiful piece of fan art sent all the way from Russia by fan artist, radak.

And now, I'll make the first call for the summer. As I mentioned in the last post, after Episode 18 the stories will be going on a summer hiatus. HOWEVER, we hope to keep the site active with some other fun stuff...
Picture
                                            NOW SEEKING: Slashy, smutty smut!
If your Caprica fan fiction tends to be the more nekkid variety, now's your time to shine! Summer reading should be trashy, romantic, and fun, and I hope to accommodate all of your geeky beach read needs!

Beginning of Line is now accepting submissions of slash fiction and smut! How much sex you include, and how graphic it is, is entirely up to you - but these stories should focus on the romantic relationships in Caprica, and you can ship whomever you like! I've read some great Amanda/Clarice, Joseph/Evelyn, Zoe/Lacy, and Sam/Larry stories out there that I've liked a whole lot. You can ship Sam and Daniel, Lacy and Clarice, Joseph and Fidelia (and Evelyn)! The possibilities are endless with this group.

Please send submissions as a MSWord or a Google doc to beginningofline[at]gmail[dot]com, and please limit your stories to 1,500 words max. Stories should be submitted by June 30th to be considered for the summer.

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Your Guatrau,
Teresa

Tad Thorean is Back! Also, approaching "Summer Hiatus!"

05/18/2011

First things first! We've got a new story up! It's another Tad Thorean story (people do seem to be intrigued by his relationship with Tamara, don't they?). This one is our Episode 12, "Those Who Live and Die For the Game," by Lotte Somerset. And yes, we've re-used Abby Geiger's fabulous drawing of Tad, because it's, well, fabulous! :) Check it out!

Episode 12. I can hardly believe it! Our final episode - Episode 18 - is only 6 weeks (or so) away, and after that, Beginning of Line will be going on "Summer Hiatus." This doesn't mean the site will be inactive. OH, no!

What it means is that there will be other stuff going on to entertain you as I, along with select writers, will be mapping out Caprica's Season 3 here at Beginning of Line.

What will be entertaining you, you ask? Here's a partial list:
** Smutty fan fiction (Amanda/Clarice and Sam/anyone shippers REJOICE!)
** video/music contest
** art contest
** possible RPG

Keep your eyes peeled here at the blog, because this will where all calls for submissions and announcements will be taking place! And in the meantime, let me know what you think about the creative direction of the site next season over at our Forums. WOOT. :)

Your Guatrau,
Teresa

New Story, PRESS, and a Very Important Question!

05/09/2011

Hello Caprica fans!

Episode Eleven (can you believe we've told eleven stories already?), the second part of Dóra Kecskés' Gara Singh story, is called "Cloak of Deceit" and is up right now!

Also, check out my Very Important Question in the FORUM regarding the future of the stories told here at Beginning of Line! I'd love as many different opinions as possible!

Lastly, Spanish-speakers should totally check out this interview I did about Beginning of Line over at Vortice Online, a Spanish-language sci-fi site based out of Puerto Rico that's been supporting BOL from Day One!

That's all for now!

Your Guatrau,
Teresa

The Five - RYAN LAWRENCE (and other stuff)

04/19/2011

So, life (and another fandom, don't hate me!) has kept me really busy lately, and I've fallen behind again. So there's no new episode this week. BUT there's some stuff you can be doing instead:

1) Visit our FORUM. Now that we've finished the first half of the season, it would be a great time to talk about the stories you've read so far! What have you loved? What have you hated? What do you want to see more of/less of? I've stared a thread in the "Worlds of Beginning of Line" forum to start you off!

2) Spread the word! If you like what you're reading here, tell other Caprica fans you know about it! Our FB Fan Page is HERE, and our Twitter feed is HERE. Pass the links to those around as well as the link to this site. There are plenty of people who don't know about the site, but should, and I can only send out links so often. Uncle Sam Needs You! Uncle Sam Adama, that is! :)

3) You can read The Five interview (no longer The Friday Five/Artsy Mondays as they won't always be up on Fridays/Mondays as sometimes the writer and the artist are the SAME PERSON) for RYAN LAWRENCE author (and screencapper) of the fabulous Amanda story, "Punishment," which you can read in our STORY ARCHIVE. Take it away, Ryan:

1) If you had to choose ONE, what's the most important thing people should know about you?
That's a tough question! The best answer I can come up with is that I come from a place of honesty. If I hold anything of utmost importance in my life it's to be truthful, both to myself and to others. I've had to swallow my share of nasty truths and I think throughout season 1 of Caprica every character had to do the same. Maybe that's why I'm drawn to Battlestar in general - it's always shown the truth, be it ugly and menacing or the ray of hope beaming into the tunnel.

2) Favorite thing about writing fan fiction?
This was my first shot at it! I think my favorite part of this experience was taking my love for a character (Amanda) and giving them a new perspective. I chose to do a story on Amanda because viewers of the show criticized that she only cried and smoked in every episode. I felt this was a shallow interpretation of her and wanted to tell her story. I'm very happy with how it's turned out.

3) Least favorite thing about writing fan fiction?
I think getting the details hammered down was the most arduous task. Fans have a keen eye and they will notice everything. I was very concerned that someone might say, "But Amanda couldn't be pregnant at that time," or point out a flaw in age. I hope I mapped it out well enough so there's never that moment of, "Hey, wait!"

4) Of all the characters on Caprica, why did you choose to focus on Amanda in this way?
I think I chose Amanda because she's been shown to be a mixed up, hurting person. Maybe I'm ignorant of the variety of people in the world, but who hasn't at some point in their lives been able to relate to that? I have many times through my life and I wanted to paint her picture a little more clearly. I think a lot of people didn't buy the idea that "she's just crazy". I thought making her feel guilty about her brother's death would flesh out her insanity a little more. It doesn't help that she's with a maniacal (but loving!) person like Daniel.

5) If the technology were available, would you want to be resurrected as a skin-job cylon?
As long as I could form new memories and have a fully functioning brain I don't see why I wouldn't want to be. There are too many interesting things here on Earth now for me to imagine ever being bored. Besides - then I'd have plenty of time to continue the stories of Caprica!

HALFWAY THROUGH SEASON TWO!

04/12/2011

Remember when Caprica used to air on Tuesday nights? Well, here's the next best thing! Our latest story at BOL is up, and it's a great one by Abby Geiger, proving that this woman can do more than just draw! It's a Tad Thorean-centric story called "Purpose", and it features beautiful art not only by Geiger, but by fellow Quebecer, Elizabeth Louvaris! And remember, you can discuss the story with other fans in the BOL Forum!

Also, WE'RE OFFICIALLY HALFWAY THROUGH SEASON TWO here at Beginning of Line, and I couldn't be happier. I'd love to take this time to thank all of my writers and artists without whom none of this would be possible. Here's to the next nine episodes and to completing a second season of Caprica. Someone had to do it! :)

Enjoy!

Your Guatrau,
Teresa
